The advent of the roto molded seat bases is good.  But where/how does one get replacement seating while keeping the original bases???

If it was wise furniture, then Restore Pontoon can do that but I decided to get it with the new furniture so I could sell the old furniture and make a little bit. Not sure if I'd make enough to save on the difference but the thought of just replacing the cushions does have some appeal, like not having to cut new holes for speakers - remounting lights, batteries etc. Hoping the new bases have better rain run off between the seat cushions and mold tops instead of it just running inside the bases.

Worst problem is the Wise seats did not hold up well.  There are two other seats on the boat that were 18 mts old when we installed the Wise.  They are in very good condition still while the Wise are in bad shape with seams splitting and great amount of mold, etc.  The seats (all) have been treated the same since we installed the new ones.  So i am not very interested in replacing with Wise cushions, at least not the classic or whatever they are calling them.  Thumbs Down -- follow up--  If i can't replace seat cushions with better or other grades then the roto mold base is not such a great idea!!!!!

A call to Andrea should clear it up. I had the premier series. I know me, Rick and others went to the Wise production plant for a tour and I don't recall if the bases were different between the classic and premier/deluxe series.

The bases are of a different design.  They are more wedge shaped from deck to seat bottom on the front.  But the key is the attachment method and the actual size of the seat and back cushions.  I have not seen any place that shows the actual dimensions and attachment of the seat and back cushions.  Also, if that info was available and the upgrades would fit, there is no place to order them.  i sure do not want to put the same seats on again.  Matter of fact I won't!!!

Mike,

You are right the deluxe bases are different from the premier bases.  When it comes to replacing the  cushions/bases for seats, we can sell those parts separately.  The problem that you will have is if you want to purchase other seat cushions from someone other than the original manufacturer of the seat they may not fit.  The reason is most manufacturer's in the US normally like to patent their designs so their seat cushions fit their bases exclusively.  Also when I hear a customer talk about mold, the first thing that comes in mind is are they using the correct products to clean and protect their vinyl or is there boat covered properly.  This may not be what's going on with your seats but if you would like to email me some photos of what your seats are doing, I may be able to trouble shoot what is going on.

I sent you a private message as I would be curious if your seats are under warranty.  I would be happy to call Wise directly for you aswell.

Let me know, I would be happy to help..

Andrea

Mike I think I'm gonna get a quote without the bases. I'm thinking now after the discussion I might just be better off selling my old cushions at a fraction just to dispose of them rather than hauling them to the dump.

Since I already have holes drilled for drainage, wiring, among not having to remount everything (lights, batteries etc) it might make better sense. Course I have NO idea of how to remove the back cushions from the bases. Guess I need to get on the toon and get a better look.

Uh Huh.  That's why I'm interested in replacement cushions.  The bases are in excellent shape and have the drains and lighting I've put in, etc.  Don't want to do that all over again as well as fixing/replacing cushions!!  Wink

On my toon the back cushions are bolted to the base at the bottom of the cushion. It's hard to see looking in the base for the bolts, but you should be able to feel them. I had a couple loosen, and were sticking down, so that's how I found out. Wink

Got to thank Andrea and Restore Pontoon for help with the seats and warranty.  She went to bat and helped me get replacement cushions for the seats.  So I will try them again.  I do appreciate her effort.  So Thanks Andrea!!  Thumbs Up

I started  looking for seat covers as soon as I got them..  4 years ago I could find matching covers (white) for the seats.  Not so now.  So I'm holding off on replacing the cushions until fall when we pull the boat for winter.  A local upholstery shop will make covers for me and we'll install everything for next season .  But they want the boat so the covers are correct for fit.  And I'm not going to pull the boat for 2 weeks in the latter part of the season!

I think with the roto molded bases that replacement cushion availability will be necessary.  Don't know how that will work.  So many boat mfg's have different shaped seats, etc, and that creates a problem for obtaining replacements??  But down the road if we don't have to pull and throw away the bases after we have them lighted and anchored and plumbed for sound, it would be nice.

I still haven't got my quote yet for the seats I want without the bases. I decided against selling my old cushions, since they would have to have the same bases I have. The more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea of not having to remove the bases since I already have wiring run through them, etc. Come the 1st I buy the first set (capt chairs), then Oct I get the rest of it.

Does anyone know what brand the seats are on Grimman pontoon boats? We want to replace them and wondering if the Wise replacement seats fit! Thanks any info you might know!

I've personally have never heard of the Grimman boats before. As for fit, just go to Restore Pontoon's website and compare the seats, - you'll see the demensions of the seats are there. So it just a matter of measuring your deck or do a mock up by putting tape on the ground that cooresponds to the measurements. That way you can change the layout to your desire.  If you still have questions, just call them, they'll assist you.

I would call Grumman and ask them the manufacturer of the seats. Or like Airforce suggested, measure what you have and order some new ones.
