Minn Kota Powerdrive upgrade

I don't know about other Power Drive owners, but the only thing I disliked about it is the "Grip Glide" deploy system, which is a pain to use. Some of you might rememeber a few years back when mine knocked me out. Other than that it is a great trolling motor. Last year they updated the PD's with a Deploy Assist lever that makes putting the motor down for use very easy. After doing some research on the MK site and talking to one of their techs, I found out the only change is the lever. You can purchace the three parts needed to make the upgrade for less than $25.00 and it takes about half an hour. Part #'s are Lever 2307201, Roll pin 2302750, and Spring 2302627.

To make the upgrade you have to remove the shaft, take the four screws out of the top cover, and remove, unplug the red and black wires under the blue insulation. Loosen the motor height clamp and pull the shaft and motor assembly out of the base. Using the right size punch tap out the roll pin holding in the old Grip Glide lever,  the spring will fall out. When you look in the casting you will see an indent on one side where one end of the spring goes and a noth in the opposite side of the new handle. The hardest part of this whole job is holding the spring in while tapping in the new roll pin. Stand the base up on the end and leaned the other end against your chest, then set the spring housing notch, gravity will hold it there, then put your new lever in place making sure the other side of the spring goes in the notch in the handle. Now gently tap the roll pin in from right to left, once it goes throught the spring it will stay in position. Once you get the pin about half way through it will try to go off center because of the spring pressure, put a small punch throught the left side hole and pry the pin into alignment and tapped it the rest of the way through. Now re-assemble the rest of the motor in reverse order, don't forget the height clamp. Now all you have to do to deploy the motor is push down on the lever and it easily pushs out of the stow cradle.

Motorguide Lift Assist

The Equalizer

The Equalizer is  a trolling motor assist system that is a must for any Motorguide trolling motor with a Gator mount. (fits most Motorguide Gator mounts) The Equalizer is a add-on accessory that aids in trolling motor deploying and stowing and can reduce the pull weight felt of the motor by over 50%.  http://prop-dynamics.com/  http://prop-dynamics.com/equalizer-sales/   Comes with complete instructions for mounting.

Maybe i missed something.  Sure would like to see a picture of the handle.  The deploy and retrieve of the PD is the only thing i don't like.

Powerdrive v2 has a different handle. Even I wasn't aware of it but did noticed it deployed MUCH easier, now I know why.

Here's a picture of the newer style lever

and the pin that has the grooves in it for the spring

and the spring

That's the only parts that are different for the release between the older powerdrives and the newer ones

I just got the RipTide with Ipilot. The lever looks like the one above you posted but the mounting bracket is totally different. Seems difficult to pull up in the holder but there are some instructions about adjusting it. Once I get wiring done then I will look at

Has anyone tried the new or mod units?  Trouble I have is pulling back on the old lever and at same time pushing the shaft and motor forward to over center.  On retrieval it is trying to hold the old lever back while dragging the shaft to the stowed position.  In looking at the expanded parts diagram I can't see where the mod would help.  Cry

I'm still trying to find a place that'll let me order the parts without having to create an account. Seems to me, if you got paypal, why should I bother repeating myself and then you're sucky website gets hacked LOL. Probably wait till next week. I looked at my new powerdrive v2 trying to figure out why its so much smoother and easier but it seems to be that once you release it, it just tilts up and then slides down. Same thing coming back up, slide straight up and over. On my v1 model, you got to almost beat it outta the holder WHILE holding the lever (which is different). Tell ya what, let me take pics of that lever release in real view on real stuff instead of looking at schematics, maybe that'll show the difference.
